This 6-session parenting class is designed for international families living in Kyoto.

Each session focusses on a practical topic to help you better understand parenting and family life in Japan, while giving you a chance to connect with other international families.

NURSERY SYSTEM IN JAPAN

Are you thinking about enrolling your child in nursery school in Japan but not sure where to start?

In this session, we will explain how the nursery system works, when and how to apply, what to look for when choosing a nursery, and hot to arrange a nursery visit. 

We will also go through the application timeline and important points that international families should know when applying for nursery in Kyoto. 

Recommended for: 
Families planning to enroll their child in nursery school in Japan.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS FOR INTERNATIONAL FAMILIES

Do you know what to do if an earthquake or other disaster happens while you are living in Japan?

In this session, we will talk about disasters that may occur in Japan, what you should prepare at home, what to put in your emergency bag, and how to find evacuation shelters and important information during an emergency. 

We will also focus on the challenges international families may face during disasters, including language barriers, and help you prepare practical steps to steps to keep your family safe.

LABOR SYSTEM IN JAPAN &
POSTPARTUM CARE IN KYOTO

Giving birth in Japan may be different from what you expect or are familiar with in your home country. 

In this session, we will explain how labor and delivery generally work in Japan, including what happens when labor starts, when to contact or go to the hospital, and what to expect during your hospital stay. 

We will also introduce postpartum care services available in Kyoto and explain how families can access support after leaving the hospital.

Expecting parents, especially those planning to give birth in Japan.

RASING A BABY IN JAPAN:
THE FIRST YEAR

The first year with a baby brings many changes - and many questions, especially when raising a child in a different country. 

In this session, we will talk about everyday life with a baby in Japan, including breastfeeding and formula, sleep, play development, and useful services for families with babies. 

We will also share practical tips and information to help you feel more confident and supported during your baby's first year in Japan.

VACCINATIONS &
PEDIATRIC CARE IN JAPAN

Japan's vaccination and pediatric healthcare systems may be different from those in your home country.

In this session, we will explain the basic vaccination schedule for babies and children in Japan, how to receive vaccinations, and how to use vaccinations vouchers and other documents provided by the Kyoto city. 

We will also talk about pediatric care in Japan, including when and where to take your child when they are sick, what to bring to the clinic, and useful information for international families raising children in Kyoto.

BABY FOOD IN JAPAN

Starting baby foods can be exciting, but it can also bring many questions - especially when the foods, ingredients, and recommendations in Japan are different from what you are familiar with. 

In this session, we will explain how baby food is commonly introduced in Japan, including when to startm how food texture and portions change as your baby growsm, and how new foods are introduced step by step. 

We will also talk about common ingredients, allergies, and practical tips for preparing baby food while raising your child in Japan. 

Recommended for:
Families with babies around 4 months old.
